“The creation of new DNA profiling technologies and their application to forensic science is key to the field’s development. Improvements to the speed, sensitivity and power of discrimination are all common areas of research [1], [2] and [3]. Recently there have been moves towards the development of technologies focussing on automation and portability which, together with cost reduction, will usher in the next generation of forensic platforms [4].
