are not monolithic and have a multiplicity of interests; co-management is not a static formal structure of roles and responsibilities but rather a fluid problem-solving arrangement. Various methods are available to inform restoration project formulation and assess impacts on local communities (Chambers, 1994). One tool, participatory mapping, can be used to integrate social and biophysical perspectives by displaying spatially the location of resources, their condition, and how they are used (e.g., Boedhihartono and Sayer, 2012 and Hewitt et al., 2014). Because co-management occurs within a social learn more context, no single approach will yield universally positive results (Young et al., 2013). Therefore, gathering information and understanding the social dimensions of a restoration project is as necessary as understanding the biophysical dimensions (Charnley, 2006 and Knight et al., 2008).
